Atlas How to Claim Land Guide

Claiming land in Atlas is as simple as pressing the F1 key. However, certain limitations still apply. If the land you are attempting to claim is currently unclaimed you will only need to press the F1 key, which will bring up a flag blueprint. Planting the flag will place your claim. When you plant your flag, you will receive a notice with the coordinates of your attempt as well as a timer. You will be required to defend the land for ten minutes, and once the timer runs out the land is yours.

However, it’s not as simple if the land is already claimed by another player. If the owner is sleeping on the land or has been on it recently, you won’t be able to claim it. However, if the land hasn’t been used recently you can plant your flag which will contest ownership. To do so, you will need to find the center of the territory where the current owner planted their flag and plant yours there. After a timer runs down you can steal the property. If you successfully steal the land, you will get all of the buildings and items that are stored on it.

There are certain parts of the map that you cannot claim. In fact, they are the same map areas where you aren’t able to build structures either. These include lawless areas and freeports.
