Stardew Valley patch 1.5 added in Ginger Island, which has so many things to do on it! Because of that, it also added in a ridiculous number of materials and things to do. One of these important materials for Ginger Island grinding are Cinder Shards. As is standard in these RPGs, your ability to gather up these shards will be critical to keeping you up-to-date with recipes. Cinder Shard in Stardew Valley
Cinder Shards are red crystal things found on Ginger Island.
Where is it?
These can be found inside of the Volcano and the Volcano Dungeon on Ginger Island. You mine them out of Cinder Shard nodes, using a pickaxe. These nodes drop a decent chunk of the material, which is perfect for your farming purposes.
However, some monsters also drop the material. Magma Sprites, Magma Sparkers, and False Magma Caps have a chance of dropping it. Like most enemies, they don’t have fantastic drop rates, but they’re much higher than your standard drop rate; 50% for one, and 20% for another! That’s really good, compared to your standard enemy drop rate. You can actually grind these monsters and have it be effective for you.

Uses
These are a recipe material, and also a currency. You can craft an Ostrich Incubator using Cinder Shards, which allows you to start growing Ostriches on your farm. That’s nice!
You can also purchase the Deluxe Retaining Soil recipe from the Island Trader, which is a great way to ensure you have watered soil. That’s a huge load off your back! You’ll need to water your crops so much less often.
You can also purchase the Cinderclown Shoes, which are +6 Defense, and +5 Immunity. These are great all-around shoes, though Mermaid Boots are arguably better in the end.
So, to get all of these items, you’ll need a total of 170 shards, which is a pretty large amount. At least they’re fairly easy to farm!
