Apex Legends Best LMG List

There are only two light machine guns in Apex Legends, and in our opinion both guns are worth using. The light machine guns are:

  • Devotion
  • M600 Spitfire

When coming up with this list, we considered the base damage each weapon does, how much of that damage it can apply, and how difficult the weapon is to come by. Since both of these guns are fairly common, that isn’t a major factor for the LMG list. However, One major differentiating factor we weighed in this list is whether or not a weapon needs a certain mod to shine.

2. Devotion

Apex Legends Best LMG

Full-auto energy LMG
17 Bodyshot Damage
34 Headshot Damage
Available Slots: Barrel, Optic, Stock, Hop-Up

Let me start by saying that, despite its ranking, the Devotion is excellent at what it does. One of the truly unique weapons in the game, the Devotion is an energy weapon with an interesting “spin-up” time. When you begin firing the devotion, the rate of fire is very low. But as you continue to fire, the weapon “spins up” which drastically improves your rate of fire. At its maximum, this weapon has a fantastic firing rate that can put out insane DPS.

What makes the gun interesting is one if its drawbacks, however, as the spin up time is fairly long. Thankfully, there is a mod known as the Turbocharger that greatly reduces spin-up time, making the Devotion reach its max rate of fire almost instantly. That’s the problem with this gun, though. Without the Turbocharger it’s not particularly strong, and there are plenty of other weapons out there that aren’t reliant on a mod to thrive. That said, with the Turbocharger in place this gun can shred at close range.

Close range is probably the only time you’ll want to use it. The Devotion has terrible recoil and isn’t nearly as accurate as the Spitfire, making it less than idea for fighting at medium range.

1. M600 Spitfire

Apex Legends best LMG

Fully Automatic Light Machine Gun
20 Bodyshot Damage
40 Headshot Damage
Available Slots: Barrel, Optic, Mag, Stock

This was a tough call, but we went with the Spitfire as our favorite. This is a great medium-range weapon that is surprisingly accurate. In fact, its rate of fire and damage let it compare favorably to assault rifles. The weapon uses heavy ammo and can hold up to 35 rounds with the standard mag. This may sound like a lot, but with the rate of fire it goes fast. While the weapon is still great without it, an extended mag goes a long way with the Spitfire.

The Spitfire also has another major advantage: a reload time that is much faster than normal for its class. This is an unheralded bonus, as it keeps you in the fight far longer than you would expect. This weapon, named for the Call of Duty Spitfire SMG, is one of the best you will find.

Conclusion: Spitfire vs. Devotion

Ultimately, this choice comes down to a matter of taste. If you are lacking the mod for the Devotion, the Spitfire may be better in most cases. But while the Spitfire is great at medium range, a Devotion with a turbo charger is a beast at close range where the recoil issues are largely abated. The real answer is to try them both and decide for yourself.
