To begin the quest, you’ll need to head to the center of Gortyn in Messara. Head to the Gortyn Code, where you will notice a civilian with the quest icon over his head. He will call out as you approach that he has a job for you. Spoiler: he’s not hitting you up to do his taxes.

The civilian is jockeying to take over Gortyn. Head of the boule council; the Code of Gortyn proclaim that if Gortyn loses a war the council must replace the leader. And who does the code say should replace the leader, you might be wondering? The head of the boule council, as it turns out.  The plan is simple: murder a visiting herald from Phaistos. The murder will force Gortyn into a war with Phaistos; one that it can’t win. The civilian will become the leader and you get richer. The civilian also talks about destroying war supplies, but that isn’t necessary to complete the mission.

Kill the Herald

You will need to first kill the herald to advance the mission. As the civilian explained to you, the herald and his small entourage wander the city during the day. You can usually locate him with your bird as soon as the mission begins. Track him down and kill him. If you attempt the mission at night, the herald can be found at the Leader House. It makes no difference where you kill him.

Kill the Leader

In a bit of a head-scratcher, you are to kill the current leader of the city after you kill the herald. That is despite the premise of the mission being that a war is necessary to get your friend into power. The leader can be found at Daidalos Fort. While there are guards here and there, he is often walking by himself. He’s not hard to pick off or blitz. Once he’s dead, return to the civilian to claim your reward.
