Bad Pad Preview

Have you ever wondered what would happen if your gamepad’s buttons came to life? Well I haven’t – UNTIL NOW. That’s the premise of Headbang Games new release, Bad Pad. We adore this wacky yet bold premise, and the pixelated action that comes with it.

Bad Pad Preview

Bad Pad describes itself as a “metroidvanian platformer” that certainly brings the nostalgia for those early 90’s side-scrollers we all love. But this isn’t your average side scrolling shoot-em-up; Bad Pad is a hard rock musical comedy with a main story that is frequently told through song.

You’ll play as Square, the heroic square button from your game controller out to seek justice as save the world. The game consists of 4 acts an more than 160 unique scenes. That includes 10 major bosses and some classic mini games as well. You will need to do more than button mash, as part of the game relies on working within the system of physics and gravity as well as solving environmental puzzles. Did we mention the art is hard not to love?

Spooky

Don’t tell me you don’t want to save this little guy.

Our Verdict

At a time when there’s not a lot of new ground to cover in gaming, Bad Pad manages to break new ground. Rock opera? Check! Cute premise about your game controller coming to life? Check! Honestly, what’s not to love?
