Towards the end of the game, you are going to encounter a character named The Carver. The Carver will eventually take you back to the camp you found at the start of the game. You will come to at the campfire. As you awake, you will hear the voice of The Carver coming on over a radio left nearby. He will instruct you to search the campsite for something he left for you.
Near the campfire you will see a tree with white markings on it. Look carefully, as Ellis’ camcorder is resting in the tree. Grab the camcorder, and you will find recordings inside from Ellis. Among other things, they will show Ellis talking about getting “white branches” from “the tree.” Spooky, right?
From here, it is not always clear what to do. The problem is if you walk in any direction for too long, you will wind up back at the third campfire. If you watch carefully on the recording, you will see a trail of luminous goo splattered on the tree. The goo makes a trail down a path leading away from the campfire.
Follow that glowing goo! It will lead you down a path to your left and towards the tree you are now looking for.
